Installing Helix DMS

The first part of installing Helix DMS is transmitting the website files to the application directory where your installation will reside. This can be done over FTP or through a file system connection.

Helix DMS can be installed and operate in any mixture of the following application environments:

  • Operating System:Windows 2000, XP, 2003, or 2008
  • Supported Web Servers: IIS 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, or 7.0
  • .Net Framework: 3.5.
  • Database System:SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (Express, Developer, Standard, or Enterprise

Other installation requirements are:

  • Application Directory: The virtual directory or website that Helix is accessed from via IIS, must be configured as an application.
  • Write Permissions: Helix must be able to read and write to files in the directory it exists.
  • Network Access: In order for Helix to be licensed, it must be able to access other websites over https and http. DNS is a requirement for this as well.
  • Database: A database must be created on the SQL Server for Helix to connect to.

First browsing to the site.

After uploading the site files, you will need to browse to the website url. When Helix is not properly configured for use, it will direct the user to the Master Settings section which requires Windows or Basic authentication for access and login box like below will appear.

Basic Authentication

You will need to enter in the server account credentials to access the Master Settings page. This will most likely be the FTP username and password you used to upload the website files.

Once logged into Master Settings, the administrator will need to follow the instructions on the screen to properly configure Helix for use.

After all the check are green in Master Settings, the database is provisioned and ready for use. The default administrator username is 'admin' and the password is 'admin'. We recommend changing this immediately upon logging in for security purposes.
